Thesis at TU Braunschweig "Standing Kruskal-Schwarzschild modes at the magnetopause"

The magnetopause separates the interplanetary space from the Earth's magnetosphere. Using data from the THEMIS satellites the oscillations of the dayside magnetopause could, for the first time, be attributed to Kruskal-Schwarzschild modes, the eigenmodes of the magnetosphere. The frequencies of these modes coincide with the so-called magic frequencies of geomagnetic pulsations and provide an interpretation of these puzzling oscillations.
