MPS continuously seeks to attract promising young scientists at postdoctoral level from outside the institute. There are relatively regular postdoc job advertisements on the MPS website and often also in the newsletters that are relevant for the respective research area, either offering a wide range of topics or dedicated to specific projects. The positions are typically granted for two to three years. These positions are typically funded by the Institute’s budget or are based on available third party funding.
In addition, there are a number of options for postdoctoral researchers to apply for external grants funding their own position and/or a research group. MPS offers extensive support for such applications with MPS as host institute. Such funding opportunities comprise:
- Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (MSCA-IF)
- Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers
- ERC Starting Grants
- DFG Research Grants
- DFG Emmy Noether
- Max Planck Research Groups (MPRG)
- Lise Meitner Excellence Program
- Sofia Kovalevskaja Award
