Education and Training at the Institute

The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) offers apprenticeships to young adults in six different professions. These apprenticeships are concluded with examinations conducted by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce or the Chamber of Trade. The apprentices are offered the opportunity to directly work on projects for the space research during their training. This means that sometimes building parts or circuits that the apprentices were working on are actually flying in space later on. The MPS has been educating and training young people since 1949 in acknowledgment of its social responsibility and has prepared more than 390 apprentices for their professional careers. Seven of them passed their exams as the best in Germany, ten scored first place in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Lower Saxony or won the competition of the Youth in Trade. Within the Max Planck Society, MPS has been acclaimed for its excellent education and training.
