The Planetary Plasma Environments group (PPE) has a strong heritage in the exploration of planetary magnetospheres and space plasma interactions throughout the solar system. It has contributed instruments to several past missions that flew-by or orbited Jupiter (Galileo, Cassini, Ulysses). The PPE participates in the JUICE mission by contributing hardware and scientific expertise to the Particle Environment Package (PEP).
The Submillimetre Wave Instrument (SWI) will investigate the Galilean moons of the giant planet Jupiter, the chemistry, meteorology, and structure of Jupiter’s middle atmosphere as well as atmospheric and magnetospheric coupling processes.
PEP (Particle Environmental Package) is a particle spectrometer to measure neutral and charged particles in the Jupiter system. The PEP-Instrument onboard JUICE consists of two units with a total of six different sensors.
The ESA-Mission JUICE shall explore the Jovian system. To be launched in 2022 the spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in 2030. JUICE will for the very first time ever in history enter in an orbit around an outer planet's moon.
Cassini/Huygens was a joint project between NASA, ESA and the italian space agency ASI to study the Saturnian system between June 2004 and September 2017. Titan was one of science targets of the mission.
