Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (MSCA-IF)

Eligibility: doctoral degree (at the date of the call deadline ) or at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience; open for researchers of any nationality, either coming to Europe from any country in the world or moving within Europe (details see below)

Deadlines: Once per year, usually mid-September
           

Support is foreseen for individual, trans-national fellowships awarded to researchers of any nationality, for employment in EU Member States or Associated Countries. It is based on an application made jointly by the researcher and the host institution that is located in an EU Member State or an Associated Country. There are different types of Individual Fellowships. The typical case is a Standard European Fellowship (EF-ST). Other options of European Fellowships include Reintegration Fellowships and Career Restart Fellowships. In addition, there are Global Fellowships that are based on a secondment to a third country and a mandatory 12 months return period to the European host. In the following, the Standard European Fellowship is described. For the details of other types, please refer to the attached guide.

Standard European Fellowship (EF-ST)

  • The researcher must be, at the date of the call deadline, in possession of a doctoral degree or has at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.
  • The researcher may be of any nationality.
  • No age restrictions apply.
  • The researcher cannot have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host institution located in an EU Member State or Associated Country for more than 12 months in the three years immediately before the call deadline.
  • The proposal should be prepared by the researcher in cooperation with the applicant organization, which is represented by the main supervisor in the framework of the proposal.
  • Submission of the proposal falls under the final responsibility of the applicant organization as represented by the main supervisor.
  • The host organization signs the Grant Agreement, receives funding, recruits the researcher, claims costs, and takes complete responsibility for the proper implementation of the action.
  • The duration is between 12 and 24 months.
  • Indicative timetable for evaluation and grant agreement signature:

-        Information on the outcome of the evaluation: Maximum 5 months from the final date for submission.

-        Signing of grant agreements: Maximum 8 months from the final date for submission.
