Data

Latest News: Official AIA and HMI level-1 data products now available from the GDC-SDO.

SDO data are now available locally at the MPS through the German Data Center for SDO (GDC-SDO); currently restricted to MPS users. The main data series include HMI and AIA Level-1 observations. If you're an MPS user and would like to access this data at the GDC-SDO, please click here for instructions.

HMI: Dopplergrams, Magnetograms, Continuum, Line Widths, Line Depths

The GDC-SDO has all meta-data (i.e. keywords commonly found in FITS headers) for the HMI level-1 observables listed in the table below. It also has FITS images for the Dopplergram, Continuum Intensity, and line-of-sight magnetogram data series. If you are interested in the FITS images for the Line Widths and Line Depths, please send a request to burston [at] mps.mpg.de.

Additional information about these data series, such as additional coverage details, can be found here. The coverage files given for each of the available data series describe below. These files detail the number of images that are okay (n_OK), missing (n_MISS), or unknown (n_UNK) between some starting date i.e. low=... and some end date i.e. high=.... It also specifies the date for the very first image for the entire series i.e. series_low=... as well as the date for the the very latest image i.e. series_high=... The text files are generated by the show_coverage utility command for which very detailed information can be found on the JSOC wiki.

AIA: Level-1

The GDC-SDO has all meta-data for AIA Level-1 under the series name "aia.lev1". However, the total data volume for the corresponding AIA Level-1 FITS images (full cadences and all wavelengths) is enormous and too large to store locally at the GDC-SDO, hence the need to transfer selected subsets of the images. Summarily, the current AIA data includes

- All meta-data (i.e. keywords commonly found in FITS headers) for all wavelengths and full cadences

- A 1-year rolling archive of FITS images at 12 minute cadence, for all wavelengths

The available wavelengths are listed in the table below, along with their full cadences (not always perfectly constant), sizes and number of images; the primary FITS image is named image_lev.fits.
