Physical origin of supergranular waves

Supergranulation is an intermediate scale of solar convection (30 000 km) which is very mysterious. It is known that the supergranulation convection pattern shows wave-like propagation; the physical cause of which is completely unknown. This project is to characterise horizontal vector flows associated with this pattern motion, and to search for a physical explanation using simple models of convection in shear flows.
