The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen, Germany,invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position in helioseismology.

The position is available in the Solar and Stellar Interiors Department starting as early as 1 October 2021 for a period of two years, with the possibility of an extension.

The exact start date is negotiable.

Toroidal modes of oscillations in the inertial frequency range have recently been observed on the Sun. This project will consist of studying the excitation and damping mechanisms of these modes to explain their amplitudes and lifetimes. Additional projects in p-mode helioseismology are available.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, or a related field. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and a full list of pub-lications. Candidates should arrange for at least one letter of recommendation to be emailed to the same address.

Remuneration is according to the German public salary scale TVöD E13. Social security benefits are in accordance with the public service regulations.

MPS is conveniently located on the North Campus of the University of Göttingen, next to the faculties of astrophysics, geophysics, and geosciences and within close distance to the faculty of applied mathematics and other Max Planck Institutes.
