MPS Seminar: Confinement and radio frequency heating of fusion plasmas: status and outlook (J. Ongena)
Realizing fusion on earth in devices based on magnetic confinement requires temperatures of about 150 million degrees. This can be obtained with several techniques, and an important option is using RF waves in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) at powers of several megawatt. The status of magnetic fusion research worldwide and outlook for the future with the construction of the large tokamak ITER and first operation of the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X.
