Vesta: Farbige Ansichten eines Ur-Planeten
Press Release 02/2012 - May 11, 2012

What have we learned from multi spacecraft missions
Mini-Symposium
June 22, 2012, Max Planck Institute in Katlenburg-Lindau (MPS)
Space plasmas are often dominated by three dimensional, time varying structures. The Cluster mission, with its 4 satellites flying in a tetrahedron shaped configuration, was the first dedicated space mission to address these issues. With more than a decade of observations from the Earth's magnetosphere, its boundaries as well as observations from the solar wind, this mission has provided new insight in ...

Oxygen loss from Earth and Mars caused by same Solar wind impulse
Press Release 01/2012 - March 9, 2012
Magnetic shield protects Earth.
For the first time scientists of the Max-Planck-Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) discovered that the amount of oxygen ions leaving the Earth and Mars atmospheres is enhanced when a so-called co-rotating interaction region of the solar wind passes by the planets. The study is based on data of the Mars Express and Cluster spacecraft of the ...
